Best Practice - Track Critical Investment Policy information

Financial Advisors, when it comes to investment policy statements or even just other critical investment information, having an organized system will help you and your practice.

For example, if a client has a favorite stock, or has an external account, how are you tracking this today and importantly, how do you pull this up in seconds? And is the system you have to track this flexible and scalable for your entire practice?

From my experience, sadly, financial advisors end up searching in various places for this information and some times, it is falling through the cracks.

As mentioned in the previous Best Practice Video, if you store that in your financial planning software - such as MoneyGuide Pro, eMoney, Right Capital or Naviplan, you are making a classic scaling mistake.

If you are one person or two, that could be a good solution. However, when you hire a new person, they likely won't come trained on operating any of the above financial planning software.

And so far, I have never seen an investment portfolio software allow you to track this efficiently.

Finally, if you are using a Redtail CRM or Wealthbox CRM to track this - kudos to you. Or, store it in Excel - like we had done for many years. The challenge with both of these methods for you is to remember and locate the information when you need it. This can make for a frustrating experience for you/your team and inevitably will lead to either forgetting it or the classic: "We will address this after the meeting." Creating more work for you/your team afterwards. Yuck!
